Description

We are delighted to announce the Hands-On CosmoLattice Workshop: Simulating the Early Universe, to be held on May 7–8, 2026, at the Department of Theoretical Physics of the Complutense Univerisity Madrid, Spain.

This workshop is conceived as an intensive and practical introduction to lattice-based numerical techniques for studying non-linear field dynamics in cosmology. The program combines focused lectures with guided hands-on sessions, enabling participants to gain both conceptual understanding and direct experience with state-of-the-art simulation tools.

A central component of the workshop will be the use of CosmoLattice, an open-access high performance framework for lattice simulations of field theories in an expanding universe. Participants will learn how the code is structured, how to configure and run simulations efficiently, and how to interpret their physical output in cosmological contexts.

The scientific program will concentrate on:

  • Introduction to non-linear phenomena in the early universe

  • Lattice field theory techniques
  • Structure and architecture of CosmoLattice
  • Simulation of interacting fields in expanding backgrounds:
    • Scalar field dynamics with general potentials
    • Abelian gauge fields coupled to charged scalars
    • Gravitational wave generation from non-linear field dynamics

The workshop is aimed at graduate students, PhD students and postdoctoral researchers interested in computational approaches to early-Universe physics. The objective is to equip participants with the tools needed to confidently implement and analyze lattice simulations of complex cosmological models.

Observations:  There is no registration fee for the workshop. Participants are kindly requested to bring a personal laptop in order to take part in the hands-on sessions. Access to a cluster to run parallelized simulations is also recommended.
