The Real Jardín Botánico offers a particularly distinguished setting for a scientific meeting. It is both a major CSIC research institution and a living museum, housing collections of more than 5,500 plant species from around the world. Its combination of scientific activity, historical architecture and extensive gardens provides an inspiring environment in which to exchange ideas and develop new collaborations.
The Garden is located within Madrid’s Paseo del Prado and Buen Retiro, Landscape of Arts and Sciences, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. UNESCO highlights this area as an exceptional urban landscape in which culture, nature, the arts and the sciences have developed together over several centuries. The Real Jardín Botánico is one of the principal components of the protected site.
The venue is also exceptionally well situated for visitors to Madrid. It stands on the Paseo del Prado, beside the Museo Nacional del Prado and within easy walking distance of the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza, El Retiro Park, and Madrid Atocha railway station. This central location allows participants to combine the scientific programme with convenient access to many of Madrid’s leading cultural institutions, restaurants, and public spaces.
Information concerning access to the conference rooms, registration, and accessibility arrangements will be circulated before the meeting. Participants requiring specific assistance are encouraged to contact the organizing committee.
